We are all disappointed with the closing of on-campus instruction this semester at the University of Illinois. This is especially true for our beloved Senior class of 2020, who are currently missing out on many things, including to an on campus, in-person graduation. Our hope is sometime soon they will get to experience an in-person graduation in Champaign and get to cross the stage and recieve their diplomas with the administration, faculty, their fellow students and family members in attendance.
Until that time, we wanted to provide a way to experience one of the most important elements of that weekend, which are photos! Last year, we shared the top 10 places to take a photograph during graduation weekend.
This year, in absence of being on campus, we have partnered with local photographer Craig Pessman, who has provided some iconic photographs of key campus photo locations you can use as a background for virtual graduation photos and for Zoom graduation celebrations.
To use one fo these photos as a Zoom background, you'll need to do the following:
1. Download the photo you want to use as a background.
2 Log into Zoom and start a new video call. Once your video starts, locate on the bottom left of the dashboard the "start video" button. There is an up arrow icon you'll need to click and then click "Choose Virtual Background" as shown below:
3. Once the next screen comes up, you'll need to look to the right of the "Choose Virtual Background" title and click on the "+" button as shown below:
4. Select from the images you've downloaded.
5. Click on the background file image on the page and you'll see the background change.
6. Click the "X" to close the box and you're background will be changed.
