Whether you need an avenue to send your kid a little cash or whether they’re making their first account, there are multiple banks on campus that your kid can use to their advantage. We’ve listed some here for you to check out.
PNC is the bank of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. They have convenient locations on both Green and First streets, and they also have ATM machines in the Illini Union Bookstore, the Union, and Grainger Library. Some students even link their I-card to their account, which can be used at the ATM.
Their mobile app is very useful and lets you view your most recent spending habits. Pro tip: if your kid has any questions, tell them to call their local branch instead of the National PNC customer service number. They’ll receive help much faster this way.
While there are no Chase branches located on campus, there are ATMs in the area. Chase is most known for their quick-pay feature. Checks can be deposited with just a quick picture on your smartphone and money can be sent between Chase customers almost instantly.
When asked about their experience with Chase, a local student said “I like that Chase has locations everywhere. They also have really good deposit technology and their app works great.” We’ll take her word for it!
Busey Bank is headquartered in Champaign, so it’s not surprising that they have over five branches in the Champaign-Urbana area. The staff is very friendly, which is probably why they have over 700 reviews with an average 4.9 star rating on Zillow. They also encourage their employees to volunteer for the community.
Their largest location also has ample parking and is located right in downtown Champaign. If your student is going to live in the area for a long time, consider getting them an account with the friendly neighborhood Busey.
The U of I Community Credit Union (UICCU) is located on the east side of the Illini Union. They are a full functioning bank that specifically serves Champaign-Urbana. Conveniently for students, they have ATMs at various spots around campus and like the other banks on this list, they have a mobile app.
UICCU boasts some advantageous rewards such as cash back for friend referrals and $25 credit for large Amazon purchases. They also have staff on hand to advise students and help them with their banking experience.
There are many banks in the area that are not listed in this article. Luckily, it’s hard to go wrong with your choice. Most banks have great customer service and online features that make monitoring funds a breeze.
If you’re looking for a way to send your child money quickly, create a Venmo account. Money can be sent from one party to another almost instantly through the mobile app. We’re sure your kids will appreciate it!
